A riad is a traditional Moroccan house built around an interior courtyard or garden. It turns its back on the street, so however busy the lane outside, inside it is quiet, shaded and private. Most have only a handful of rooms and a rooftop terrace — which is why a riad feels personal in a way a hotel rarely does.
